Cottage Pie

Mashed Potatoes
Peel and chop
- 6 large potatoes
Add salt, boil and drain the potatoes. Add
- pepper
- butter
- milk
to taste and mash.
Beef and Vegetable Mixture
Peel and cut
- 3 large carrots
Chop
- 1 large onion
Slice (thin)
- 1 lb sirloin steak
into triangle bite size pieces.
In saute pan, put
- bacon lard and vegetable oil
and add carrots and onions, adding
- salt and pepper and garlic powder to taste
Simmer and cover so the carrots will be a little soft. Uncover and add the beef. Brown all sides of the beef and add
- salt and pepper and garlic powder to taste
To the beef and vegetables, add:
- one 8 oz can of tomato sauce (no more!)
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp white vinegar
- 1 tsp ground paprika
- 1 tsp curry powder
- 1/2 tsp cumin powder
- 1/2 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp mustard powder
- 1 tsp molasses
- 2 medium bay leaves
- 1 tsp brown sugar
- a squirt of ketchup
Bring that all to boil and then cover for 5-10 minutes to let the flavors stew together.
Remove from heat and add
- French green beans (drained)
to the mix.
Baking
Place in the bottom of casserole or cake pan. Top with mashed potatoes. Top that with
- a few cups of shredded cheddar cheese
Top with
- < tsp paprika
Bake at 350 F for 30 minutes.
