Simple Beef Roast
Peel
- a few large carrots
and scrub and cube
- a few large potatoes
Quarter
- one large onion
In large Braising pan, in
- olive oil
brown
- 1 lb beef chuck roast
adding
- salt
- black pepper
- garlic powder
- worcestershire sauce
to taste. Add vegetables and enough liquid:
- a cup of water
-
something Guinness-like (some sugar, lots of acid) or
- 1/2 cup vinegar
- a little bit of brown sugar
to keep beef from drying out.
Also, add
- a bay leaf
Simmer covered for a few hours, until the beef is tender and the veggies soft.
Make the juice into a gravy with flour/butter/mlik.
